Process Flow Diagram

The process flow diagram is often created as part of the feasibility study prior to the execution process of a plant building project. It is a simplified version of the piping and instrumentation diagram and only describes the components and control loops most relevant for the process and the important, safety related features. The depiction of components required for maintenance works is limited or omitted entirely. It should be easy to read and space should be used economically. Among other things, an important purpose of the process flow diagram is the definition of the interfaces between the parties involved in the plant building project.
On the process flow diagram, the depicted components are not usually marked with a unique identifier, as done on the piping and instrumentation diagram.
